![]() ![]() Despite their looks, the female characters are very strong. The character development is incredible and the art is gorgeous. Also, the country of Regnant is ruled by a queen, Amatsu worships Sakuya as their priestess, and even the God in the game is female. By the end of her chapter, she regains her ability to sing by discarding the persona she has been forced to show and finding beauty in her true self. Sakuya’s entire arc is about how women have to put on a false face in order to be accepted, but doing so does greater harm than benefit. It haunts both her and Rusty throughout the game, but she fights to prevent anything like that from ever happening again, even though she’s scared and feels alone. Mordimort had to watch her entire hometown and everyone in it die in a fiery death and that trauma still affects her. Despite Nonoka’s appearance, she is easily the strongest unit in the game and even though she’s clumsy and scantily clad, her devotion and loyalty to Sakuya is extremely noteworthy. She’s a vital asset to discovering how to get Lisette to sing, finding the Celestial score, and discovering a way to defeat Mother Qualia. Veronica is the brains of the entire game. Hilda ran her own country and although she was later referred to as a tyrant, her intentions were just to prevent the Eclipse from happening. Dorothy is referred to as "the most brutal member of the Harbingers” and she is considered a major threat despite being a young girl. While Lisette can be kind of annoying, all of the other female characters are very strong. Although Dorothy doesn’t wear the uniform, her design, as mentioned earlier, is supposed to look childish.įor the plot and dialogue of the game, just because certain characters have love interests does not mean that it is sexist. Likewise, Dante and Hrodulf wear their similar looking uniforms to show their alliance to and association with the Harbingers. Keep in mind that when Klaus, Rusty, and Archibald join your party, they’re all Regnant knights and their armor and attire is supposed to reflect it. Also, in gameplay, the girls are a lot squishier than the armored characters, because characters with armor are supposed to be the tanks whereas the witches and assassins are meant to to damage, not absorb it. It’s a platonic ending that’s just as hilarious and quirky as she is. She is the wisest character in the game and her ending isn’t even romantic. Yes, I will admit that Veronica has a very disproportionate figure but they gave her an amazing character to compensate for it. Plus, her outfit is really no more revealing than Ewan’s. This wouldn’t work as well if she was wearing armor like Klaus or Archibald. Her outfit looks more childish than sexy and her whole gimmick is that each one of her attacks is a dual edged sword that hurts some aspect of her health, defense, movement, etc in exchange for a stronger attack. Also, the witches are all meant to follow the magical girl trope in their designs, and if you look at other magical girl series, their outfits are ultimately pretty similar in style. Mordimort and Keith both come from the desert, so of course they wouldn’t wear as much clothing since the weather is so hot. While Nonoka, Hilda, Popo, and Mordi’s outfits are revealing, they acknowledge and poke fun at these facts (ex: Alto commenting how Nonoka’s outfit is counterproductive for being a shinobi, Lisette’s mom offering to make Hilda a new outfit since she wears so little clothes, and Sakuya referring to Popo as “the one who shows her belly). Ok, as much as I think oversexualization in video games is a problem, Stella Glow is not insulting in the slightest. ![]()
